Red: Matthew Shepard -- A gay student who was beaten, tortured, and left to die tied to a prairie fence near Laramie, WY in the fall of 1998, his murder subsequently led to state and federal hate crime legislation better protecting LGBTQIA folks around the country. Shepard's remains are interred in the Washington National Cathedral. The scent, Telluride, is fresh, green, and balsamaic. It represents the fresh, moutain air where Matthew chose to live his life openly, but ultimately perished.
